Wanna break a sweat while making a memory? Let's play Pickleball!
The History
While pickleball has been around since 1965, it's made a major impact on the sports community and industry in the last few years. This comes as many restaurants have started to pop up where they include bar food and live sports, while also including the opportunity to play pickleball. This sport has started to dominate the sports space as it became named the fastest-growing sport back in 2022 with nearly a 30 percent increase in viewership.
My Experience and Prices
To start, my girlfriend's family and I went to a place here locally called Serv. It's a welcoming place for beginners as well as experts if this is your kind of thing. You get a paddle and a whiffle ball to play and is similar to how tennis is played. One end of the court serves the ball and the other receives, when serving, the ball must hit diagonally from where it is served. It may not hit in the light blue area during the serve as this will result in the receiving team getting the ball.
When I went, I was expecting to suck. This was not the case, and it's actually pretty easy to pick up if you're just trying to play casually. If you have never played, I believe Serv out in Overland Park is a great place to start as they have a full rules sheet to read before playing which breaks everything down in a simple, easy-to-follow format while offering many indoor and outdoor facilities to play.
Now, let's talk about those prices. For serv, in particular, they offer courts during prime time and non-prime time hours. If you're looking to play later at night you will be in the prime time hours where a court will cost you $40 per hour which will include your paddles and ball. If you're an "early bird gets the worm" type of person, then you will be looking at non-prime time hours which are half the price at $20 per hour. More about those hours can be found on their website here: Reserve Pickleball Courts Online - Book Your Game at ServFun
Overall
This experience is definitely worth the fun laughs you get out of it. The price may be a little steep, but you can bring lots of people and split the difference like I did, and you will make for a memory of a lifetime if you do it right. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you're sure to have a blast!
